A local book club is confident people are willing to pay $500 to hear former U.S. vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin speak.

The Bon Mot Book Club invited Palin to Vancouver Oct. 13 to challenge people’s minds, organizers say.

“She’s an interesting character,” said Leah Costello, founder of the Bon Mot Book Club. “People will have the opportunity to decide for themselves whether or not they like her. She’s definitely a force in U.S. politics.”

The ticket includes a 20-to-30 minute presentation, a Q-and-A period, and a “chef-inspired menu and fine cellared wines” from the Vancouver Club, according to the website.

Other high-profile speakers this season include Liz Murray, recipient of Oprah’s Chutzpah award; Pervez Musharraf, former president of Pakistan; and Dr. Atul Gawande, leader of the World Health Organization.
