Staff at a Toronto centre for at-risk pregnant teens are expected to form a human chain around the building today.
The Service Employees International Union says it wants to prevent government inspectors from entering the Massey Centre for Women.
The union says the human chain is meant to prevent any funding cuts at a facility it says houses the city's most vulnerable.
Union official Jacob Leibovitch says times are tight, but the answer is not to target young women and their newborns.
He says the centre is already forced to turn away young women because of inadequate funding, and with the onset of winter, “worse is to come.”
A delegation of government inspectors is expected to try to seek access to the centre (1102 Broadview Avenue) at 8:30 a.m.
