A tour of the winners of one of the country’s most prestigious international human rights awards made a stop in Calgary last night.

Calgary was the first stop of five Canadian cities by the winners of the John Humphrey Freedom Award.

The Zimbabwe Lawyers for Human Rights were the winners this year, and director Irene Petras said she was happy with the Calgary response.

“We really want to raise the awareness of the situation in Zimbabwe. There is a very difficult human rights situation,” she said.

The group spoke at the Glenbow Museum yesterday.
