Paul Hughes breathed a sigh of relief yesterday as he stepped off of a month-long rollercoaster ride.

Hughes, the curator of ambitious art project 1111, was beside himself last month after the Art Gallery of Calgary, which was slated to host to show featuring a plethora of local artists’ work, yanked the plug citing scheduling conflicts.

After pondering splitting the show into 11 pieces to be held at 11 locations, it will now stay in tact, as Meals on Wheels promised 40,000 square feet of space to house the show at their unfinished 225, 58 Ave. SE location.

“Santa came early,” said Hughes.

Meals on Wheels’ Kathryn Robson said as they’re still $9 million short on their fundraising before they can begin construction at the site, opening it up to an art show just made sense.
The show will open Jan. 11, 2009.
