Documenting her fight against breast cancer turned a Calgary woman into a self-professed “Ho of Chemo” and reeled in a finalist spot in an international breast cancer film festival.
Allison Lane, 36, turned her ongoing breast cancer fight into a comedic yet dramatic short film dubbed Chem-Ho. She is now one of eight finalists across the world in the Breast Fest Film Fest.
Lane was diagnosed with breast cancer exactly one year ago Oct. 4, and since she was already in the arts industry, she turned the camera on herself while going through treatment.
“At first I thought, ‘why me,’ and had a little pity party for myself. But then I realized I can’t let this stop my life so I put a comedic spin on my situation,” Lane said, adding she even tried to date a doctor in the film.
Lane was surprised when she started receiving feedback on YouTube from people who found inspiration in what she was doing.
“I think I discovered ‘why me.’ This happened to me so I can give others who are going through the same thing hope.”
People can view and vote for Lane’s film at breastfestfilmfest.com until the Oct. 15 deadline.
