The current post-secondary tuition cap could be lifted if schools propose necessary tuition hikes.

Donna McColl of Alberta Advanced Education said several schools suggested to Alberta Educational Minister Dave Hancock that the government consider raising the current cap.

“The issue of even raising the tuition cap is just a rumour and the minister won’t even consider it until proper procedure occurs,” McColl said. Colleen Turner, vice-president of external relations at the?University of Calgary, said a series of meetings with the university’s student union and grad union must take place, along with collaboration from the province.

“When we decide to move forward with the tuition consultation meetings it could take weeks, but we should have recommendations in the new year,” Turner said.
