Working from home might become a lot more common in Calgary as the city launched the inaugural Calgary Telework Week.

A Calgary Economic Development initiative dubbed theWORKshift program has been promoting teleworking in the city for a year now, and project manager Robyn Bews says things are going well so far.

“I think it’s safe to say that teleworking is here to stay and there are a lot of opportunities for employers to jump aboard,” Bews said.

“We believe this is a win-win-win situation for everyone.”

Companies that jumped aboard yesterday include Telus, ATB Financial, SAIT Polytechnic, Calgary Police Services, Enmax and CED, and Bews hopes many more take part in the future.

CoworkYYC, the home for Calgary’s freelance community, hosted the event yesterday and encourages Calgarians to take advantage of their work space.

“This is an accessible and smart space that makes being the boss of you even more rewarding,” CoworkYYC co-director Nik Thierry said.

“They can avoid the noisy coffee shop, find their way out of their home office or even create a new office here to bypass a busy downtown commute and expensive parking.”
