It’s only Chris Daughtry’s second album and he’s already settled into a corporate template that’s interchangeable with his own debut and the last three Nickelback CDs. Just to make sure the colouring didn’t venture outside the lines, the label even hooked Daughtry up with Nickelback hitmaker Chad Kroeger for two co-writes on the album, including the uber-earnest rock ballad No Surprise. It’s not polite to hit on a guy for producing a record that is sure to appeal to fans, but the sameness of it all becomes irritating before the end of the third track. Even the potentially potent collaboration with country star Vince Gill (Tennessee Line) gets painted over with two or three extra coats of sameness. No Surprise is right. There’s certainly none here.
