Slayer’s best quality isn’t its speed or over-the-top of lyrics, it’s that the band members have been more or less consistent purveyors of aggressive metal since they formed in 1983. Their latest will sound familiar — wildly rapid guitars, a lyrical onslaught that’s filled with violent imagery — it’s not much different from many past releases. But, that’s why people still flock to Slayer. Fans love the murder, anarchy and anti-religion messages, they want more of the speedy drums and crunchy riffs and these days, Slayer is one of the only name metal bands playing this type of music.
