Stone Temple Pilots
Album: Stone Temple Pilots
Label: Atlantic/Warner
Rating: **

A lot has happened in the nine years since the last Stone Temple Pilots record was released. There have been new bands, fueds and stints in drug rehab, but somehow Scott Weiland and the DeLeo brothers have put that behind them to release a new STP record. If only they had stayed separated. This disc is mostly made up of — not surprisingly — bland ‘90s-era rock. Weiland unfortunately channels Dylan on Between the Lines, while other songs, including Huckleberry Crumble, dabble in bar band blues. There are some meaty riffs and they do sound like a cohesive group that’s having fun, but this is a long way off from the foursome’s Vasoline days.
