A man attempting to cross a street in Twin Brooks yesterday morning has become Edmonton’s 11th traffic fatality of 2008.

The 53-year-old man was trying to cross 9B Avenue near 119 Street around 7:30 p.m. yesterday, when he was run down by an oncoming vehicle.

Edmonton Police Services spokesman Jeff Wuite says the man was not on a marked crosswalk.

The victim was rushed to hospital, but died as a result of his injuries a few hours later.

It is not yet known whether charges will be laid against the 19-year-old driver of the 1976 Datsun that took the man’s life.

“It’s too early to say,” Wuite said. “We’re still trying to examine if speed may have been a factor.”

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.
