Live in a futuristic past

FOR METRO EDMONTON

It has been one of the most sought-after Edmonton locations ever since famed Hudson Bay explorer Anthony Henday pulled his canoe out on the sunny side of the North Saskatchewan in what is now Cloverdale.

Homes as old as the City of Edmonton itself occupied this river’s elbow for the better part of the last century, only recently giving up the ghost to a series of stylish condominium complexes, including Parkwood Master Builder’s Water Side Estates.

The stone exterior reminiscent of construction practices of yore complements the upscale and traditional feel of this neighborhood.

The homes, however, feature all the modern conveniences of condo living. Dark ceramic tile and nine-foot ceilings welcome visitors to the show suite. The tile runs to the right into a handy combination laundry-storage room and to the left into the home’s three-piece main bath.

Straight ahead, the tile washes up against a dark-stained maple floor that extends through the kitchen and off into the great room.

The kitchen features a bank of dark chocolate brown cabinets, which is contrasted by a collection of stainless-steel appliances, a clever ceramic tile backsplash inlayed with a glass-tile inlay, and bright white granite countertops. A rather large island mirrors the wall of cabinets with not one but two tiers of granite.

The comfy great room revolves around a wall-hung electric fireplace, all of which should be visited if for no other reason than to check out the funky furnishings.

A hallway runs perpendicular from the first half of the tour, ending at the bedrooms, of which there are two.

To the right is a nice-sized junior or den and to the left is the master suite, both of which feature a drop-down bulkhead that rings the space, giving the rooms a royal feel.

Adding to the regal nature of the master bedroom is a rather large walk-in closet and a three-piece ensuite with shower.

Each suite in Water Side Estates also features a gas barbecue hookup and an underground parking stall. The complex also features a fitness room.

For more information on how to get into Water Side Estates call Jennifer Schwitzer at 780-469-5105 or go to www.parkwoodmasterbuilder.com.
