The Edmonton Transit System Control Centre’s new integrated transportation security system will keep the public abreast of accidents and delays and help prevent crimes.

The new system, called Intergraph, is the same technology used by the Edmonton Police Service and the Edmonton Emergency Response Department.

A mapping and data entry system is integrated with an interactive, real-time map display that allows Control Centre staff to dispatch help, keep track of operators, clear ETS vehicles from incidents and update police in case of an accident or a crime.

The goal is to enhance customer safety and security and streamline their own processes, says Ron Gabruck, director of safety and security.

“If a bus is delayed for any reason for over 15 minutes the information is relayed to our control centre,” he said.

“The city can take that info and send it to the 311 group and when people call to ask about delays they can tap into their information and be told why.”

Crimes and emergencies can also be dealt with much faster and more efficiently, he said.

The new upgrades are unique in public transit in Canada.
