With Christmas just around the corner, Edmontonians will be stuffing stockings, turkeys and, starting Monday, a bus.

The Edmonton Food Bank has partnered with ETS once again for another holiday Stuff A Bus donation campaign.

“It’s been a challenging year for people turning to the Food Bank and it’s been a challenging year for the organization to keep up with the demand,” said Marjorie Bencz, executive director of the Edmonton Food Bank.

Since the demand for food is much higher this holiday season, the Edmonton Food Bank hopes to raise $900,000 and 240,000 kilograms in non-perishable food for the holidays.

“There is a different need in our community than there has been,” Bencz said.

The loss of the Bright Nights Festival has left a 30,0000-kilogram hole in the charity’s stockpile. “With the increased number of people coming to us, we’re appealing more to people to help us out during these events,” Bencz said.

The 15th annual campaign will run Nov. 23 to Nov. 28, with a goal of collecting 30,000 kilograms of food for the Edmonton Food Bank.

“The Christmas and festive campaigns are really important ones for the Food Bank because it not only sets the tone for now but also into the new year,” Bencz said.
