Edmonton households will have plenty of options to celebrate Family Day today.
For starters, Edmonton’s Downtown Association will kick off its Family Day Festival at nine different venues downtown beginning at 12 p.m. Check out edmontondowntown.com for more details.
There will also be plenty of activities at city hall for the Family Day Global Village beginning at 12 p.m. Events at the village include a Family Day Flag Parade, camp fires and free hot chocolate at Churchill Square.
Families can also spend time at the legislature at 12 p.m., where children can enjoy a plethora of events, including magic shows inside the pedway or horse-drawn wagon rides.
Alberta was the first province to celebrate Family Day in 1990 — a holiday that was created by then premier Don Getty.
Getty said the holiday was important for all Albertans to spend time with their families, and the day would emphasize family values.
