Canada’s men’s and women’s hockey teams will be bringing their gold with them to the City of Champions in the hopes of raising some green for a new outdoor rink.
The Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation (EOCF) announced yesterday that it is joining forces with the Hockey Canada Foundation to host a gala celebration and golf tournament, Rings of Gold, in Edmonton June 28-29.
“The golf tournament is already sold out and there are only six or seven tables left for the dinner,” said Allan Watt, VP, broadcast and communications with the Oilers.
The event is meant to recognize the 2010 Olympic gold medal winners and to raise money for a new rink that would fit into Telus Field while the Capitals aren’t playing ball.
The rink is slated to open in the fall of 2011 and would be used by minor hockey teams as well as the general public.
