And while it might be a huge draw for tourists, Edmonton’s biggest attraction is no place to take cover when they come looking for your brains, say the experts.
“You would want to avoid the West Edmonton Mall because there are way too many people in it,” said Carla Noble, co-founder of the River City Zombie Committee, which holds two annual Zombie Walks, most recently last Friday.
If you can’t escape the city — a hub for the brain-eating public — secluded is best.
“Find somewhere with no windows and only one door,” explained Noble.
Darryl Plunkie of dEdmonton said he’d elude the undead aboard the Edmonton Queen riverboat.
“You can stick it in the middle and nobody can get to you, and you can have people rappel down,” he said, adding the Alberta Legislature and Hotel MacDonald are also good makeshift forts.
If it seems hopeless, heading to some place with liquor to numb the pain of flesh-eating attackers is advised.
“The Billiards Club is good,” said Plunkie. “Put pool tables against the doors and there aren’t many windows.”
Zombie Emergency Preparedness Kit
- Have a meeting spot, time to head out and exit strategy in case no one shows up.
- Fill an emergency pack with the necessities: Guns; easy to carry food; something to start a fire; warm clothes; blankets and water.
- Make sure your weapons are light enough to carry and not too loud, as they may attract more zombies.
