A group of citizens plan to protest against alleged police misconduct at the Halifax police station today.

The demonstrators are demanding a public inquiry into the way police officers treated protesters during the start of the Chebucto Road widening project last month. “There’s going to be a number of people who are putting in complaints and letters of concern about the way the demonstrations were policed,” said Chebucto Road Neighbourhood Association Joe MacDonnell.

On July 4 and 7, police arrested eight people as workers cut down trees to make room for the city’s controversial road-widening project at Chebucto and Mumford roads. The protest organizers allege police used excessive force, bullying tactics and abusive language when arresting two people who were later released.

The peaceful demonstration starts at noon outside the Gottingen Street station.
