Nova Scotia Power Director of Conservation and Energy Anne-Marie Curtis is calling a new program for energy efficient lighting launched yesterday “a great opportunity to make the switch to CFL bulbs.”

The NSP program includes 10 major retailers throughout the province. Between Sept. 15 and Nov. 30, people can save three dollars of the price of a multi-pack of six or more Energy Star qualified CFL bulbs, and four dollars off packs of qualified specialty bulbs at more than 130 retailers across Nova Scotia.

The announcement was made yesterday at The Home Depot in Clayton Park. Other retailers participating include Canadian Tire, Costco, Home Hardware, Kent, Rona, Sears, Walmart Canada, Zellers and select TIM-BR Mart locations.

Judy McMullen, executive director of Clean Nova Scotia, said in the release that if each of the 12 million households in Canada switched one bulb from a 60-watt incandescent bulb to a 13-watt CFL, it could save up to $73 million a year in energy costs.
