English leaves, roster down to 30

Defenceman Matthew English left the Halifax Mooseheads on Monday night, cutting the team's pre-season roster down to 30 players.

With three players --- Yuri Cheremetiev, Tomas Knotek and Logan MacMillan --- headed off to NHL training camps shortly, the Mooseheads are likely to make only five more cuts before the regular-season opener. They also need to shed one 20-year-old.

The 20-year-old decision is expected to be between Justin Pender and Graham Bona, while two goaltenders (possibly from the group of Mathieu Corbeil, Jeremie Forbes-Brisebois and Stefan Dumaresque) and three forwards (possibly from the group of Chad Earle, Davey Shea, Charles Bety, Jeff Marchand and Alexis Piette) will likely be sent home.

Here's the remaining roster.

Goaltenders (4)
— Mark Yetamn, Jeremie Forbes-Brisebois, Stefan Dumaresque, Mathieu Corbeil

Defencemen (9)
— Graham Bona, R.D. Chisholm, Richard Greer, Ben MacAskill, Alex MacDonald, Scott McDonald, Ryan Matheson, Gabriel O’Connor, Justin Pender

Forwards (17)
— Linden Bahm, Jessyko Bernard, Charles Bety, Yuri Cheremetiev, Gabriel Desjardins, Chad Earle, Gerrad Grant, Tomas Knotek, Eric Louis-Seize, Logan MacMillan, Jeff Marchand, Ned O'Brien, Alexis Piette, Travis Randell, Davey Shea, Matthew Snow, Andrew White.

Re: Marchand learning not to be 'a liability'

You hit it right on the head Matthew. We paid dearly for a player we did not need. I believe we could have picked up a couple of solid defencemen for 4th or 5th round picks. The teams chemistry was...

Re: Maxime Sauve, the almost-Moosehead

This was a really good effort by the team. If they keep playing this way the bounces will start going their way. Keep up the good work. Ratcat
