Corbeil second on NHL draft list

Mathieu Corbeil’s strong play in the Halifax Mooseheads’ net has turned the heads of NHL Central Scouting.

The 18-year-old was ranked second among QMJHL goaltenders for the 2010 NHL draft yesterday. He’s put himself on the map in the past two weeks, winning back-to-back QMJHL defensive player of the week honours with a 4-1 record, a 1.40 goals-against average and a .957 save percentage.

Ahead of Corbeil on Central Scouting’s list is Moncton Wildcats goaltender Louis Domingue, a member of last summer’s Canadian under-18 team. Domingue has a 2.50 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage in 17 starts.

Defenceman Brandon Gormley of the Wildcats was ranked No. 1 among QMJHL skaters.

Mooseheads rookie defenceman Konrad Abeltshauser checked in at No. 13. Although he is currently out of the lineup with a knee injury, he has been one of the team’s top blueliners and has two goals and eight assists in 17 games.

Dartmouth’s Stephen MacAulay of the Saint John Sea Dogs also made the list at No. 18. The 6-foot-2 forward has two goals and nine assists for 11 points in 23 games.

Maybe now is the time for Cam to consider going up stairs full time and bring in a new coaching staff for next year. It obviously hasn't worked for the last three years, so maybe a change is required.
