Former Mooseheads forward Yuri Cheremetiev returned to Halifax as a member of the Bathurst Titan on Sunday.
The Halifax Mooseheads were kicking themselves on Sunday after letting two points slip away against the Bathurst Titan.
The Mooseheads followed up a solid effort in a 4-2 loss to the high-powered Quebec Remparts on Saturday with a disappointing showing in a 4-2 setback to the lesser Titan at the Metro Centre.
It stretched the Herd’s third losing streak of the season to five games, a tough slide after a four-game winning streak.
“We didn’t come out as strong as we did (against Quebec) and it killed us,” said Mooseheads forward Gerrad Grant, who had a pair of assists. “We shouldn’t have given away those two points.”
The game got off on the wrong foot when Mooseheads rookie defenceman Sawyer Hannay turned over the puck in his own zone and put it right on the tape of Bathurst’s Derek Famulare, who cruised in alone on Mathieu Corbeil and scored 10:36 in.
Power-play goals from Travis Randell and Pascal Amyot in a back-and-forth second period left it 3-2 for Bathurst after 40 minutes. But for the second straight night, the Mooseheads couldn’t get the equalizer when down by a goal in the third period.
A too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty resulted in Remi Blanchard’s power-play marker at 9:04 of the third period. The Mooseheads couldn’t recover despite a 13-shot third period and late penalties to Tomas Knotek and Matt Stoddard derailed any hope of a comeback.
“It hurts us as soon as they get that insurance goal … It really brings you down,” Grant said. “It seems like it’s happened a lot to us and we have to battle back from it every now and then.”
Mathieu Corbeil made 28 saves in Halifax’s goal. Yuri Cheremetiev, who played four and a half seasons for the Mooseheads, had four shots on goal and no points in his return to the Metro Centre.
It was the sixth straight game the Mooseheads have played without top defencemen Garrett Clarke and Konrad Abeltshauser. Both have knee injuries.
The Mooseheads, five points in the QMJHL basement with a 5-22-2 record, host the Gatineau Olympiques on Thursday.

Why doesnt the coach leave the lineup that same if eveyone is healthy and they win a good game? why keep juggling lines? that hasnt helped all season so knock it off!
