Norm! Does anyone not know who I’m talking about? Even if you’re not a barfly, Norm Peterson from Cheers is an ’80s icon whose name still gets a shout out at watering holes the world over. Taking advantage of his character’s longevity, actor George Wendt has finally put his extensive beer knowledge into words in the just released Drinking with George: A Barstool Professional’s Guide to Beer (Simon Spotlight, $32.99).

A blend of suds soaked memoir and actual fun facts about the history of beer, it’s a relaxing read with oodles of stocking stuffer potential.

While I doubt Norm would approve of the just released Molson Canadian 67 (12 x 341 ml, $19.95 - $20.99); this weight-watching lager serves up only 67 calories per bottle (about half of what’s in a cocktail or glass of wine) without losing too much of what make beer taste like beer.

Italy’s Peroni Nastro Azzurro Lager (6 x 330ml, $13.44 - $13.90) would be more Norm’s style. Its classic European design is sure to impress Stella Artois and Heineken drinkers.
