Would you like something to drink while you look at the menu?

I used to hate that question, especially when it’s served-up on my first visit to a restaurant. My waiter will let me spend as much intimate time as I want with the appetizer list, but always seems to think I know everything they’ve got behind the bar without looking.

I found the liquid answer on my first trip to Italy. Most Italians will start a fine meal with Campari ($24.70 - $26.99) – a bright red apéritif invented in Milan back in 1860. Made from a secret blend of 60 herbs, spices and neutral spirit, it’s considered a bitter.
