You Say Party! We Say Die!Album: XXXX
Label: Paper Bag/Universal
Rating: ***It’s not easy being an underpaid, overworked indie band — just ask You Say Party! We Say Die! who nearly broke up after its last tour. The group managed to pull it together, releasing the most coherent album of its career. It’s not as frenetic as past work; the dance-punk sounds are still there, but they’re toned down to make room for Becky Ninkovic’s emotional lyrics. While the first three discs focused on hyperactive sounds, this one is rooted in the lyrics, which are mainly about love. It’s actually a nice change of pace.
