Best and worst dressed ’09

METRO NEWS SERVICES

Metro polled editors across our 100 editions worldwide to compile this list of who looked great and who didn’t this year.

Best

Michelle Obama
Dubbed the first lady of fashion, Michelle Obama dazzled us with her sleeveless, strapless, and one-armed gowns, classic sheath dresses and creative accessories over the past year. She helped put budding designers on the map (i.e. Jason Wu) and showed off her modesty with old favourites like J. Crew. Not since Jackie O has the fashion world been so intrigued with the White House.

Rihanna

Homegirl may have kept her emotions about Chris Brown under wraps, but she was always ready for a photo-op, displaying her increasingly edgy wardrobe for all to see.

Diane Kruger
The actress has always been an underground stunner, but she kicked the fashion up a notch while promoting Inglourious Basterds. She’s got a knack for wearing pretty pieces that have just the right amount of edge.

Best & Worst

Lady Gaga
We loved: Her wild and crazy approach to fashion (see every outfit in her video for Bad Romance and her wardrobe at the MTV VMA awards).

We hated: Her wild and crazy approach to fashion (i.e. that puzzling bolero made of Kermit the frog stuffed animals and that weird hat made of deer antlers).

Worst

Amber Rose
Never mind that she seems to have pulled it together in recent months, Kanye West’s girlfriend spent the majority of 2009 looking like one hot skintight legging-wearing mess.

Katie Price
From the unnatural-looking tan to the Malibu Barbie clothes, the British reality TV star has made a living out of looking bad.

Mariah Carey
Why our beloved diva insists on squeezing into dresses that are clearly a few sizes too small is beyond us. On one hand, we love the kookiness of it all. On the other, we wish she’d burn the Spanx and exhale normally.
