Police seized up to 300 pounds of dried marijuana worth more than $1 million at a makeshift processing plant in Eastern Passage Thursday.
Five people were arrested during the afternoon sting in the 1300 block of Main Road.
“What was unique about this is it was a processing area. It was in a garage behind a residence under construction,” said RCMP Cpl. Joe Taplin.
“When they went in at 2:30, there was actually five people – four males and a female – actually doing the processing: cutting the marijuana and bagging it, getting it ready to be shipped out.”
At a typical price of $10 per gram of pot, the amount seized has a street value of more than $1 million.
Police also seized a large amount of cash, drug paraphernalia and ammunition on the premises, but no firearms. Officers found 54 rounds of 9mm ammo and 392 rounds of .38 special.
Three males, aged 43, 43, 37 and 33, and a 36-year-old woman will appear in Dartmouth provincial court Friday morning to face various drug-related charges.
After the suspects were taken away, police crammed garbage bags and plastic storage containers full of marijuana into vans.
