If you’re hoping for a job with the Strait Regional School Board, you may want to reconsider what you post on your Facebook profile.

The board’s working committee has sent to its next regular session for approval a new policy on recruitment, hiring and retention of employees. Under the section listing the components by which individuals will be assessed, in addition to resumes and employment history, the board has included “other related information” — a catch-all term that could cover information that may be found on social networking sites.

Superintendent Jack Beaton told the committee that generally it’s a common human resources practice to do a web check on prospective employees, and anything information gathered has to be considered in context.
