The rocky shores and rolling hills of the Cabot Trail now have a rock ’n’ roll song to call their own.?

On the Rail - written and performed by Halifax’s Joel Plaskett - was officially released this week as part of CBC Radio 2’s Great Canadian Song Quest. Earlier this fall, Plaskett was one of 13 songwriters chosen to create a song about one of 13 locations across Canada, as voted by the public.

Each had just four weeks to write and record a song.?

“It’s rare that a writer gets to create something and have it go public so quickly because you might write a song and then gig it live once or twice ... and then you record it and it comes out six or eight months later. So in that way it was really kinda refreshing,” he said.?
