Despite repeated warnings, Halifax Regional Police say they are still catching dozens of people drunk behind the wheel as the holiday party season rages on in HRM.

In a release issued Wednesday, police said they had charged a total of 61 people in its jurisdiction with impaired driving since Nov. 26. Three 24-hour suspensions have also been issued, said the release.

Police have been conducting check points throughout HRM as part of Operation Christmas, a program aimed at preventing the spike in serious accidents that occurs every year during the holiday season.

According to police, the checkpoints will continue through into the new year.
