Inside workers for HRM narrowly accepted what the municipality deemed its final contract offer Thursday night.

A HRM media release said the multi-year offer now goes before Halifax Regional Council for ratification. The final voting results weren’t released, but a source told Metro support was just above the majority needed to pass with 54 per cent voting yes.

“HRM is pleased to conclude a collective agreement,” Andrea Gillis, HRM’s chief negotiator, said in a release.

The offer presented in November didn’t have support of the Nova Scotia Union of Public and Private Employees Local 13, which represents the 800 HRM inside workers, such as clerical staff and city planners.

Union brass is upset the deal gives HRM the right to administer polygraph tests to employees and the right to record certain employee phone conversations.

HRM spokesperson Shaune MacKinlay has defended the offer, saying the municipality feels it is fair.

The union has been without a contract since Oct. 31, 2008. The deal includes raises of three per cent the first year, and two per cent each of the next two years.
