The municipality has hired a team of experts to help it choose the best company to design Halifax’s new Central Library.

Several employees of Creative Class Group, a Washington, D.C.-based consulting firm, will provide advice to Halifax Public Libraries staff as they work to select the architectural firm that will design the new building, said a release issued yesterday. Four firms are currently vying for the municipal contract.

The selection committee is expected to make its decision within a few weeks. The chosen firm will then begin drawing up plans for the new library based on staff input and a series of public consultations, the release said.

The Central Library, to be built on the corner of Queen Street and Spring Garden Road, is expected to cost around $55 million.
