Men face firearms charges

METRO HALIFAX

       Text size
A 28-year-old man is facing several weapons-related charges after allegedly being caught with a loaded gun early Saturday morning in Halifax.

Police say they stopped a vehicle carrying at least four people on Herring Cove Road at approximately 4 a.m. and discovered the weapon in a man’s possession.

“It was a routine traffic stop,” said police Sgt. Richard Gilroy. “Obviously the officer saw something that concerned him inside the vehicle, and as a result people were taken from the vehicle and searched.”

In a separate incident Friday evening, police arrested and charged a 20-year-old male after recovering a rifle and ammunition in the area of Pinecrest Drive in Dartmouth.

Gilroy said the suspect was found carrying the rifle “at or near a building” at around 6:30 p.m. and is facing numerous charges, including unauthorized possession of a firearm and failure to properly store a firearm.
