The RCMP have made an arrest in this weekend’s North Preston murder, but no charges have yet been laid.

A man turned himself in to police just before noon yesterday, but the force was releasing few other details.

“All I can tell you is a person of interest has been arrested and the investigation is still ongoing,” said RCMP spokeswoman Const. Tamu Bracken.

“Investigators will be attempting to question him.”

Members of the Halifax RCMP responded to a residence on Downey Road, North Preston, after receiving two separate 911 calls just after 6:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived on scene, police found the body of 20-year-old Casey Marleen Downey inside the residence.

Bracken confirmed that a party was taking place that evening and many party-goers were questioned by officers.

Downey’s death has been ruled a homicide by the Major Crime Unit, but police have not commented on how he died.

Bracken said more information may be available today. Police have a 24-hour window once an arrest is made to charge an individual or they must be released.
