A group of Nova Scotian municipalities, chambers of commerce and development authorities are banding together to figure out how to cope with severe population decline in the province.
The groups met in Wolfville on Tuesday to discuss the impending demographic crisis — which experts say will cause a 31.5 per cent drop in the number of school-aged children and a 30 per cent drop in university-aged students in Nova Scotia over the next 15 years.
According to Tim Tucker, executive director of the Nova Scotia Chambers of Commerce, the result will be fewer people entering the workforce.
“This challenge is real and requires us all to roll up our sleeves and take action,” Tucker said in a release. “We all have a role to play.”
