Police are searching for a road-raging couple after a driver of a vehicle was punched in the face by a passenger from another car.

Halifax RCMP say a 20-year-old man was driving his 2005 Ford Escape westbound on St. Margaret’s Bay Road by Exit 2 near Highway 103 around 7 p.m. last Friday when a silver or gold newer-style Honda Civic came along on the merge lane.

Police say the female driver of the Civic ran out of room to merge in, pulled behind the Ford Escape and tailgated the vehicle.

The victim pulled over to let the car go by, say police, but the female driver stopped, got out and screamed at him to get out. The victim then allegedly saw a male passenger exit the vehicle, and headed towards him yelling.

Police say the victim did get out of his vehicle, but then went to get back in and drive away. That’s when police allege the man came up and punched out the driver’s side window and punched the victim in the face as he drove away.

“Incidents like this are few and far between, but we do get complaints of people honking their horns or gestures,” said police spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin. “It usually doesn’t get to this level.”
