Halifax RCMP seized a handgun after a routine traffic stop led to the search of three adults Tuesday night.

RCMP spokesman Cpl. Joe Taplin said officers pulled over a vehicle for a traffic violation on Forest Hills Parkway in Cole Harbour around 11 p.m., and initiated a search after the driver appeared nervous. In total, there were two adult males, an adult female and a three-year-old child in the vehicle.

Taplin couldn’t say whether the incident was connected to the shooting in Nova Court in north-end Dartmouth earlier Tuesday night.

“At this time right now we don’t think it’s related, but we could never rule it out until ballistic tests are done,” Taplin said

Taplin wouldn’t say the make of the weapon, or if any bullets were missing from the chamber, but confirmed the gun was loaded.

Dartmouth’s Corvelle Galbraith, 22, has been charged with possession of a restricted weapon and will appear in court at a later date.
