Andrew Younger is pushing for a one-metre passing rule around cyclists.

The MLA for Dartmouth-East who is also the Liberal environment critic says the province needs to make the roads safer for people who want to take their bikes to work.

He wants the province to amend the Motor Vehicle Act to add a one-metre passing rule around bicycles and consider bike lanes in all future road projects.

He says similar legislation is currently in front of the Ontario legislature and has been passed in 18 states in the U.S.
