David Boyd aims to make Halifax the "Vegas of the East"
If you want more strip clubs and casinos in metro, then David Boyd is your man.
The 36-year-old from Dartmouth launched his campaign to run for mayor yesterday with a platform to make metro “the Vegas of the East,” increase public input on city projects, and reduce bridge tolls and transit fares.
The taxi and tow truck driver — who made headlines in 2003 for saying marriage laws should be changed to include human-android unions — says he hears from visitors all the time that there is nothing to do in Halifax.
“We need more strips clubs, casinos, entertainment, even an amusement park — something for people to say 'hey, I’ve been to Halifax,' and wear the t-shirt.”
Mayor Peter Kelly said he respects Boyd wanting to get involved, but his ideas raise issues of public security and safety in the downtown.
So far, Boyd’s other rivals include Kelly and Connaught-Quinpool Coun. Sheila Fougere.
