Besides Drake, the most talked about rapper over the last few months has been Washington D.C.’s Wale. His speedy Kanye-like rhymes have made the mix tape rounds, but it’s only now that he’s releasing his debut record. The album mostly lives up to the hype — Chillin is a solid dance floor number that samples Steam’s Kiss Him Goodbye — while guests vocalists like Lady Gaga and Pharrell add some extra diversity. There’s still some room for improvement — 90210, about Hollywood excess, is a bit cliché — but Wale’s definitely one to watch.
