Cheremetiev likely headed to Bathurst in swap

Yuri Cheremetiev appears headed to the Bathurst Titan.

The Halifax Mooseheads have reached a tentative agreement to deal the 20-year-old forward to the Titan for a third-round pick. The move could be announced as early as Friday.

Cheremetiev, who spent five seasons with the Mooseheads and sits fifth on the franchise’s career games played list with 243, is not expected to be in the Titan lineup when the Mooseheads visit Bathurst on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.

The Stoughton, Mass., native co-led the Mooseheads in scoring last season with 49 points in 65 games.

It was anticipated he would be an offensive leader for the Mooseheads this season, but he had a slow start with just seven points in 14 games.

Cheremetiev has often found himself in the doghouse of head coach and general manager Cam Russell and could benefit from a change of scenery. At the very least, he goes from a team with one win in 15 games to the Titan, who are 6-6-3.

The Mooseheads, 1-13-1, host the Saint John Sea Dogs on Saturday at 7 p.m.
