David Bailey won’t be back with the Halifax Rainmen next season, but he appears poised to suit up with the Premier Basketball League’s flagship franchise.
Bailey, a 26-year-old forward who spent last season with the Rainmen, was drafted in the second round, 18th overall, by the Rochester Razorsharks in last Thursday’s draft.
The Razorsharks have won the past two PBL championships and play in front of crowds as large as 7,000.
The 6-foot-8 Bailey averaged 7.2 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.3 blocks per game in 20 outings last season.
“Dave has experience and a work ethic that can only make us better,” said Razorsharks head coach Rod Baker.
A league source told Metro yesterday the Razorsharks are also working on signing Glen Dandridge, another Rainmen alumnus. The 6-foot-6 Dandridge averaged 11.9 points in 15 games with the Rainmen last season before being dealt in a late-season trade to the Quebec Kebs for Michael Anderson.
The Rainmen, meanwhile, have also been active, signing guard/forward Omar Weaver late Thursday night after selecting him sixth overall in the PBL draft. The 6-foot-8 Weaver has played several seasons in the PBL and American Basketball Association with the Maryland Nighthawks.
Guard Devon Norris, a Tantallon native and Dalhousie Tigers grad drafted 15th overall, will not be signed. He needs to win a job at training camp starting Dec. 1 in Yarmouth.
