ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - The Olympic flame is expected to make its way around the Newfoundland and Labrador capital today.

The torch relay for the 2010 Winter Games is scheduled to arrive in St. John's and will be transported Friday morning in a fishing dory.

The Olympic flame will also be run past the Newfoundland and Labrador provincial legislature and will be the guest of honour at a local curling club.

Among those scheduled to run with the flame is fourth-grade teacher Deanne Burton-Snow, who along with carrying the torch has also been carrying a baby expected to be born any day now.

The torch run reached the northernmost tip of Newfoundland Thursday with a stop in the ancient Viking settlement of L'Anse aux Meadows.

The Olympic flame then went on to the town of St. Anthony, where it was greeted with traditional Newfoundland music, cheers and people running alongside.

The relay will cover 45,000 kilometres and visit 1,000 cities and towns before finishing in Vancouver in February for the start of the Winter Games.
