The Halifax Mooseheads learned yesterday that rookie defenceman Konrad Abeltshauser will be leaving the team for more than three weeks next month to represent Germany at the second-level IIHF world junior championship in France.

The 17-year-old has two goals and eight assists in 16 games and has been one of Halifax’s top defencemen.

Abeltshauser also had a playing cast removed from his wrist this week. He’s been wearing it for the past four games since returning from a broken wrist on Oct. 29.

The Mooseheads (3-18-1) will look to extend a modest two-game winning streak when they host the Moncton Wildcats on Friday and the Baie-Comeau Drakkar on Saturday.
