Yuri Cheremetiev is expected to try his luck in the junior A ranks after being cut by the Bathurst Titan on Thursday.

The 20-year-old forward had just a goal and an assist in 13 games after being traded from the Halifax Mooseheads to the Titan a month ago. Sources say he will join the Maritime Junior A Hockey League’s Truro Bearcats, joining fellow Mooseheads alumni Eric Louis-Seize and Ben MacAskill.

He was traded with a 2011 fifth-round pick to the Titan for a 2011 third-rounder. Halifax would have recouped the fifth-rounder if Cheremetiev stayed in Bathurst beyond Jan. 10.

Cheremetiev co-led the Mooseheads in scoring in 2008-09 and played four and a half seasons in Halifax. He sits fifth on the franchise’s all-time games-played list.
