Don’t expect any more line juggling from Canadian head coach Ken Hitchcock, unless injuries strike.
Hitchcock shook up his lines for Thursday’s 2-1 win over Norway, demoting Jason Spezza to the fourth-line centre’s job with winger Patrick Sharp and shifting Eric Staal to centre on the second line with Derek Roy and Martin St. Louis.
“The lines we have now is the chemistry we’ll roll with,” he said.
Hitchcock added that, “We’re getting momentum coming behind (the Rick Nash-Dany Heatley-Ryan Getzlaf line), which is good. It’s kind of like walking the three and four (hitters) and then the five hitter knocks it out of the park. That’s what we need. We needed to create momentum behind them.”
The top line of Nash, Heatley and Getzlaf has dominated the tournament, combining for 10 goals among 23 points in four games, and Hitchcock called it “unrealistic” to expect any other line to contribute to that magnitude.
