FIRST PERIOD

*** Ryan Getzlaf dominated the ice surface on his first two shifts.

*** Ed Jovanovski hasn’t exactly played great in the tournament so far, and his giveaway resulted in a terrific German scoring chance about five minutes in.

*** Jason Spezza scores a great goal at 5:14, cruising in on a 2-on-1 and, despite being known as a playmaker, rips one through the legs of German goaltender Dimitrij Kotschnew. Spezza has worked hard and played excellent hockey since being bumped to Canada’s fourth line.

*** This is a big game for Canada’s second line. There are only two more Canadian games remaining, one against Finland on Monday and a probable quarter-final tilt on Wednesday. Martin St. Louis, Eric Staal and Derek Roy should seize the reins from the Ryan Getzlaf line in at least one of these games.

*** Canada has come out hitting, and Getzlaf, in particular, is making an impact.

*** Ed Jovanovski just buried Michael Wolf.

*** The shots are 8-0 more than 12 minutes in, so Canada is clearly on its game today.

*** Canadian defenceman Dan Hamhuis just made an outstanding play to create a Dany Heatley goal. From his knees, he pushed the puck ahead to a breaking Dany Heatley, who potted his seventh goal in four games through the legs of Dimitrij Kotschnew. Shots are 9-0 for Canada at the time of the goal, 13:25.

*** Germany gets its first shot at the 14:49 mark.

*** The second line gets on the board at 16:05. Martin St. Louis creates the chance on the forecheck and feeds Eric Staal from behind the net to make it 3-0.

*** Patrick Sharp gets lucky with 22.8 seconds left in the period. He goes for a centring pass to Jamal Mayers and it bounces off a German skate and through the legs of Kotschnew to make it 4-0 heading into the intermission.

SECOND PERIOD

*** Robert Muller starts the second period in goal, replacing Kotschnew.

*** Eric Staal is having a big game, recording his second goal and third point 3:42 ...[next page]
