Team Canada will be without scoring-line centre Eric Staal for the quarter-finals of the world hockey championship.

Staal, who had a four-goal, one-assist outing against Germany on Saturday, has left the team to be with his family after the death of a grandfather.

He is scheduled to rejoin the team in Quebec City, should Canada beat Norway on Wednesday in Halifax.
