Nova Scotia will be well-represented at the next two World Cup sprint canoe-kayak events in Europe.
Nine Bluenosers are among the 33 athletes named to the Canadian national team that will compete at international regattas in Szeged, Hungary, from May 28 to 30, and in Duisburg, Germany, from June 4 to 6.
Cracking the senior men’s canoe team are Dartmouth brothers Andrew and Ben Russell along with Halifax’s Richard Dalton. Windsor’s Ryan Cochrane, who now paddles out of Ottawa, and Waverley’s Connor Taras earned spots on the senior men’s kayak team.
On the women’s side, Middle Sackville’s Jillian D’Alessio, Dartmouth’s Una Lounder and Lake Echo’s Genevieve Orton have been named to the senior kayak team.
Dartmouth’s Hannah Vaughan will represent Canada in under-23 women’s kayak.
Four Nova Scotians will represent the national junior team at regattas in Szolnok, Hungary, on June 5 and 6, and Bochum, Germany, from June 18 to 20.
Fall River’s Michelle Russell and Kentville’s Alexa Irvin are part of the women’s kayak entry, while Dartmouth natives Adam Tenwolde in kayak and Jason McCoombs in canoe were awarded spots on the men’s side.
McCoombs also nabbed a spot at the Lake Placid (N.Y.) International Regatta on July 2 and 3 along with Bedford’s Liam Hatton in men’s kayak.
