Early reviews of Justin Palardy were favourable after he made his CFL pre-season debut with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats Sunday.
Palardy, who spent the past four seasons with the Saint Mary’s Huskies making Atlantic University Sport history as a punter and a place kicker, had four punts for a 39.3-yard average in the Ticats’ 13-10 loss to the Toronto Argonauts at Rogers Centre.
“I thought they brought some pressure on him and he got the ball off,” Ticats head coach Marcel Bellefeuille told the Hamilton Spectator. “He had good height and good depth and his placement was good. Overall, a good first outing for him.”
Palardy, selected in the fifth round (36th overall) of May’s CFL draft, has already been signed by the Ticats and is hoping to crack their season-opening roster.
If he doesn’t, he will return to Saint Mary’s for a fifth season. Palardy, a three-time AUS all-star, is 90 points away from matching Jesse Lumsden’s CIS scoring record of 410 and five field goals away from equalling Frank Jagas’ mark of 70. He already has AUS records in both categories.
